Getting Rid of Blackheads Naturally and Effectively

This month at Pasture Living, we are doing a series on how to take care of our skin naturallyThe skin is the body’s largest organ and it absorbs everything we put on it directly into the body’s bloodstream; bypassing the organs that would filter out harmful ingredients. This is why it is so important know what we put on our skin.

Today we will talk about ways we can get rid of blackheads naturally.

What are blackheads?

They are clogged pores in the skin, which darken due to oxidation. Our skin produces oil because it needs it to lubricate and protect the skin. However, those of us with oily skin and larger pores are generally prone to blackheads and it can get annoying. Factors such as hormones, bacteria, dead skin cells may also cause clogged pores.

We can squeeze to get them out but if we don't do it correctly, it may damage the skin and cause infection or scarring.

How to Get Rid of Blackheads Naturally?

1. Oil Cleansing Method. I've come to love and appreciate the oil cleansing method as a way to cleanse and moisturize my face. The steam opens up and unclogs pores and the oil works its way into the pores as we massage the skin, dissolving blackheads and other impurities away.

Baking Soda

2. Baking Soda or Nutmeg Scrub. Baking soda makes an amazing scrub! It helps to remove dead skin, blackheads, and makes our skin smooth. You can also try milk and nutmeg scrub. Milk contains lactic acid that breaks down old skin cells and nutmeg helps remove the oil.

Bentonite Clay

3. Bentonite Clay Mask. Make a facial mask by making a paste out of bentonite clay and water. It is excellent in removing impurities and dead skin cells, soaking up the oils, shrinking pores, tightening and toning the skin. Learn more about bentonite clay here.

After doing a facial mask or scrub, wash off with warm water and use astringent (natural toner) to tighten the pores and tone the skin. Witch hazel is what I use. You can also rub a slice of lemon over the face to tighten pores. It is a traditional method, but it is natural and effective. It is always good to avoid cleansers that contain harsh chemicals and use natural cosmetics as needed.
