Popin and Craft: A Place to Learn to Make Handmade Crafts

If you haven't heard, there a new art studio in Singapore where you can learn to make crafts at no cost. Sponsored by the National Art Council of Singapore, Popin and Craft is a place where a group of local artists, designers, and creative individuals organize community craft events to encourage a passion for making handmade crafts and bring the community together through art. The name itself means "Pop-In!," which suggests the notion of welcoming, a vision that Popin has for the community. Popin members will be in the studio during its open hours to share what they know about making handicrafts, but a large part of it will depend on the community to come and share their art skills, be it drawing, knitting, sewing, etc. The more people who are willing to come and contribute, the more knowledge can be passed on to other people who are beginning to learn or those interested in doing arts and crafts but don't know where or how to start. Some materials are provided, but don't bring them home, please. :)

I got an opportunity to attend the opening party of Popin Craft Studio on August 30, 2013 and it was a lot of fun!

They had live music and ukulele performances.

There were art stations where you can make different kinds of handicrafts.

Stamping Station, where we made our own envelopes using recycled papers.

Even my little one had a blast. I found stamps all over her shirt. :)

Recycle Art Station, where they showcased how we can recycle newspapers and colored papers and turned them into something beautiful.

Mulberry Painting Station, where you could create textured painting.

Book Binding Station, where people learned how to make hand-bound books.

"Stitch-A-Leaf" station, where we stitched our own leaf, in conjunction with Popin's community craft project for this year, where the public is invited to stitch leaves using cross-stitch techniques. The leaves are tied to a rope and unfinished leaves will be left on the rope for the next participant to continue. What an interesting idea.

They even prepared a small craft kit for all of us to bring home.

It contains materials and instructions to make your own keychain.
